I hope it's a good day with family and friends!
I was out of town for a couple of days, so I'm now in the process of trying to catch up with e-mails, snail mail, bills, blog posts, household chores, and the myriad of other little things that stack up. Thus, posting become a lower priority.
We had a good cold snap blow through over the weekend. It promises to be a cold winter - we've already had two snowfalls, although they didn't accumulate any appreciable amount. They did stick around for a while, at least on the bare garden soil. It all melted away today as it warmed up some.
Gas prices in the area have finally dropped below $2 / gallon. It's been quite a while since we've seen that. My records say the last time I filled up at less than $2 per gallon was February 2005!
I've now finalized plans to spend a couple days hunting at the end next week. I'm sure by then all of the deer will have been driven into hiding, but I'm more interesting with spending some time with family that I don't get to see nearly enough. The opportunity to take the rifle for a walk through the woods, and maybe put some meat in the freezer is just an added benefit.
(Thanks to Marko for posting the link.)
There's an article on CNN about the mad rush to buy guns now that we're counting days until the Obamessiah regime change. Mostly what I would consider happy sounds - guns flying off shelves, people scooping up ammo - except for this tidbit:
But Peter Hamm, a spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, called the buying spree "goofy." He said widespread talk of banning guns is a "sales pitch."
"With the glacial speed that we make progress on sensible gun laws, savvy gun consumers should know better than to think they have to rush out and buy guns," Hamm said. Similar surges accompanied the election of Bill Clinton, the last Democratic president, he added.
The emphasis is mine. Does he think he's making a case for not buying guns, since the election of Slick Willie brought us the '94 AWB?
Oh well, keep buying folks. Get them while you can!
Lawdog posted a link to an article by an organization called Stratfor. They are a private intelligence agency referred to by Barron's Magazine as "The Shadow CIA". This is the first time I have heard of them.
One thing they do is publish free intelligence reports. A November 5 article discusses the problems facing Obama - and it is damn interesting. You can read it here.
I'm now subscribed to their weekly newsletter. If everything they have is this interesting, I would consider paying for their subscription service. Check them out!
Now that's he's been elected, he can fly his true colors. Hold on tight, we're in for a category five shit storm.
Twenty-one months of politicians not working while collecting a government paycheck campaigning comes to an end today.
The polls are now open, so please...
===============
Update: When I voted this morning, 62 minutes after the polls opened, I was number 124 at my polling center - which services about 700 people. So I voted for a republican, three libertarians, a constitutionalist, a democrat, and against the commonwealth taking on $400 million worth of debt. The republican, of course, was Ron Paul, written in as a presidential candidate. The democrat was my state representative, running unopposed. (If that looks to happen again in 2010, I'm thinking of running against him, just so there is more than one name on the ballot. THAT pissed me off.)
The polls here closed at 8pm, and the talking heads at ABC immediately called Pennsylvania for Obamassiah. I can't wait to see the numbers....
I'm thinking this might be my last political post for a while. I've had enough. How about you?
